Mitchell Cox and Greg Williams Headed to Logan High
Logan High School has welcomed two new recruits just ahead of the upcoming 2026-27 seasons, one in basketball and one in football.
Mitchell Cox, one of the top young guards in the region, has officially transferred from Huntington Expression Prep to Logan High School, as confirmed with Logan Boys Basketball coach Mark Hatcher.
The 2028 guard is widely regarded as one of the most talented all-around backcourt players in the mountains, bringing a powerful mix of scoring ability, court vision, athleticism, and toughness to the Wildcats’ program.
Cox comes to Logan with his younger brother Peyton Cox, who will be a solid addition to both the basketball and football programs at Logan High.
Additionally, Logan football will welcome a new member to their field as Greg “G” Williams has transferred from Belfry High School to Logan High School.
Williams, who will be a sophomore next season, is regarded as one of the best young linebackers in the area and has great potential at quarterback.
He will fit well into Logan’s pass-heavy offensive scheme while also bringing strength and athleticism at linebacker.
Fans of Wildcat athletics are in for a treat in the upcoming seasons, and these 2028 and 2029 athletes are sure to grow into local superstars soon.
LHS Girls Win State Tennis Championship
Logan High School’s girls tennis team defeated Charleston Catholic 4-2 in the Class A/AA WVSSAC Tennis State Championship at the Kanawha City Courts on Friday, May 15, to bring home the first girls state title in program history.
The girls’ squad has earned back-to-back Class A/AA Region 4 titles and served as the state runner-up last year after falling 4-3 to Williamstown in the state final.
In addition to the team victory, Shelby Mullins and Jada Adkins also bested Williamstown’s Addison and Peyton Woodburn 6-4 and 6-3, securing back-to-back doubles state championships for the duo.
Adkins was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts in the tournament, making the third All-Tournament placement for the senior.

Marshall Health offers free oral cancer screening
Marshall Health Network and Edwards Cancer Institute will offer free oral cancer screenings on Friday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ranger Senior Center in Ranger, West Virginia.
Screenings will take place on the Marco Mobile Medicine Unit.
These screenings are open to individuals 20 and older, and they aim to promote early detection to significantly improve outcomes.
The detection of cancerous or pre-cancerous lesions in the mouth or throat can prevent spreading and make treatments less invasive, ultimately saving lives.
In its earliest stages, oral cancer can cause no pain or noticeable symptoms, which makes screenings necessary and impactful.
All screenings are free and painless, taking around only five minutes.
